Mid Tennessee Summer Fun

Hello all, its good to be posting again as you know we all seem to get so busy in the summer time, and this summer has been like those of the past as well.

For Peter school as begun and summer break is over. He started his first full day of Second grade on the 3rd of August. He is very excited and I feel he is already ahead compared to what they have stated as far as second grade expectations.

Luke, has had a blast swimming this summer, he got a new float vest and actually wears it now. So he just jumps in and climbs out as he pleases. It scares me just a bit when he tries to go toward the 5-9 feet end, as I cannot swimm stationary myself.

Joy has become a handful, as luke as somewhat settled down. And she has quite the temper, I guess just like her dad.

Abegail has grown board as it is easy to do as she has not yet gotten her drivers license and seldom leaves the house on week days, other than going out to the tomato patch or hanging out with the kids or myself outside when its not to mosquitoey.

I myself and just trying to make the best of things, such as work. Our hours have again been cut back, and there have been more lay offs. For now I still have a job so on that count i'm thankful.

I have also begain preaching twice a month now at Ft. Cooper Church of Christ, in Prim Springs, on the First and Third Sundays.
Perhaps I may start a blog posting my sermons, and thoughts but we will see.

Mom and Dad are doing fine as well. we really should teach Mom to post to a blog, that would be neat.

We found a Turtle and let the children watch it for a few minutes before we let it back into the wild.

I will have to add another photo with Abegail, or post again later.

Sticks and Things.

Here you will see from the video a glimpse of how scared Luke is of sticks even if on the other side of the fence as seen in the next video I will post.

The beginnings of the "Stick" story began like this. One day Luke, Peter, and I were outside on our balcony hanging out. Next thing I know Luke was scared and clinging to my legs, I had know idea why. I looked around and asked him "what is it Lukas?" I figured it was a bug or something. I had just recently cleaned the balcony of leaves and such so the only thing I saw there was a small stick from the trees in front of our place. At this point I asked Luke, "Lukas? Stick?" Suddenly he screamed and clung to me once more. We tested the "Stick" fear several times and sure enough each time he was scared and disturbed by the sticks. However each time it seemed to have less and less of a fear to it than just a pure dislike. For example we once were walking Peter, Luke and I in the grass, and Luke gently fell in the grass. I noticed a stick(small twig) underneath him, and I pointed it out to him by saying "Luke, its a stick" after seeing it he jumped up and repeated "stick!" and ran. Once I told him to "get that stick" and he bravely picked up the stick and threw it. Once more he stomped on a stick to make sure it was not going to harm him. So I hope you can all get a sense of the hilarity of Sticks! and Luke.

Happy Cinco de Mayo the Cathey Way!

Hello everyone hope you are all having a wonderful 5th of May, which happens to be Cinco de Mayo. For more information primarily about the history of Cinco de Mayo see this link wikipedia Cinco de Mayo.

Well as for what us Cathey's are doing to celebrate Cinco de Mayo, well nothing specific, however I did take the day off work, as well as Peter, but for dental appointments. Turns out all is pretty well, except I do have some cavities, and apparently some early signs of gum disease. So I will be stepping up my daily dental routine to incorperate daily flossing(I normally floss when feel food stuck inbetween my teeth such as popcorn, or stringy chicken), daily mouth wash, and I may be looking into a Waterpik. So if anyone has any experience with a Waterpik, mouthwash, or special flossing techniques, let me know.

We are cooking a very yummy diner, i've put a pot of green beans on, we will have some fried or baked chicken, some fried sweet potatoes, and some drop biscuits. Speaking of food, I have been thinking of creating a new blog dedicated to food, recipes, with pictures of our outcomes, dinner ideas, perhaps even a dinner of the week that everyone could prepare the same day, this way if anyone runs into trouble, questions, concerns, or special tips, all could ask, or comment and everyone would be well informed. So again if anyone(Mom, Sarah, Marcus) has any ideas on that please let me know.

28 Years 2 Days Part 2

Well I said I would show the stitches when I removed the original bandages from the doctors office. So here we go.

And for a side note, it was extremely difficult to remove the bandage the nurse put over the stitches at the doctor's office, I think due to the fact that the wound was still bleeding some and the blood dried and stuck to the bandage. It took at least thirty minutes for me to work it off, most of which time was just getting the nerve up to pull harder for fear that I would cause myself any more pain.

The wound is rather sore but there is no more throbbing pain or aching. As the doctor said the pain should subside more and more each day, if not it would likely be a sign of infection. well try and enjoy the pictures.

Also if these pictures continue to gross anyone out each time you view our blog, just comment so and I'll replace those with something nice.

28 Years 2 Days without ever having a suture(stitches).

Well, what a surprise having a post on our blog with such an odd title. But this is one of those little moments in my life where something new has happened. I have lived 28 years now and 2 days, and up until late yesterday afternoon never required stitches in my life. All of that ended yesterday while working on my job. A simple thoughtless action of mine caused my left thumb just below the nail and up to the first joint(knuckle) to be come cut down to the bone it seems. It was quite a surprise for me as I'm usually very safety conscious at work. But alas this has given me 3 stitches I will never forget. The doctor advised that I do washe the area until a couple of days have passed. I am supposed to leave the original bandage on for 36 hours, but leave the brace on for 4 days or so until the sutures have secured the cut closed. after I remove the first bandaging I will take a photo of the stitches for all to see.

Well its that time of the year again when the leaves have fallen, and the air is cooler. It feels good to bundle up in the mornings for work, putting on my gloves and hat. Even the sight and feel of frost on my car is welcome as all of these things help me remember that its Christmas time again. Its so good to have three wonderful children this year. John Peter, and Jarvis Luke were with us last year and it was much fun watching both of them open presents and enjoy themselves so much. This year we have added Joy Naomi to the mix, however I think she is much to young to truly understand the significance of presents, and this special time of year. On the other hand she is sitting up now and crawling on all fours rapidly. She is also enjoying new things (mostly anything she can teeth and chew on) which is convenient as she will be getting some gifts from Santa.

Well many of you may be asking what should you get for the children this year, as all of us like to help Santa and his elves out during this economic downturn(Cough! Recession Cough!) anyhow. so let me give all of you some information that may come in handy in this gifting time of year.

I have obtained some information from an Elf i'll only refer to as Bo Jingles, that two lucky boys may have some musical fun this year on a certain wii little white box.
Grand Mothers all over this year have helped the Elves and Santa by finding all sorts of remote control flying toys, electric guitars, and miniature basket ball goals, and Potato head toys.
To tell you the truth before helping the Elves or Santa it'd be best to check with Grand mothers, Grand fathers, and Parents as to avoid double gifts and such.

Well as far as i'm concerned this is the most wonderful time of the year!

Did you know Dad(my dad) puts red pepper on almost everything he eats now. For example; Saturday morning I cooked breakfast at mom and dad's house, and I fixed bacon, and pankcakes. Dad proceeded to dash quite a bit of red pepper on his pankcakes. I thought it was by mistake, but when I questioned him about it Mom explained how he does this with almost all his food now. he even puts the ground pepper with the seeds and bits of red peppers on various foods.

At dad's urging we went to the country on the first of November to pick up walnuts that have fallen from about half a dozen trees.

I had no idea there would actually be that many walnuts, or that it would actually turn out to be pretty fun for the whole family.

Only Naomi Joy, and Mom(grandma Mom) stayed home. Dad(granddad) Abegail, Luke, Peter and myself all went.

Everybody helped in the collection of walnuts, even Lukas picked up walnuts and added them to the various buckets and shopping bags. by then end of the adventure we had the trunk of dad's car packed full of containers of walnuts.

we are all growing so much these days. Baby Joy is ready for the highchair, and even the table. Luke has been eating from plates with spoons and forks. and Peter is doing so well in school and at home reading books. Abegail is always excited about something, today it is her time spent with Mom's Sister Darleen, and neighbor Poom, trying out and learning about MaryKay products.

Have you heard about the fuel shortages in Nashville that started Friday and on through the weekend?

As of 9/22/08 the National Unleaded Averages are as follows;

regular- $3.739 mid- $3.900 and premium- $4.017

Here you can see in Columbia about 2 blocks from my apartment the prices are;

regular- $4.099 mid- $4.219 and premium- $4.339

And to add to the frustrations locals are having with having the nations highest fuel prices, you can't even buy the stuff at those prices cause the pumps are dry, sold out due to who knows what.

Luckly for me I just purchased mine a few miles before I drove past the Shell. I stopped at the Kroger fuel station, and paid 3.899 for regular, as that was all they had to offer no mid, and no premium.

Good Morning to everyone, oh wait are you not up yet? Well you see Abegail and I got up at 5:30am to go to Wal-Mart for the crazy people's sale. All we really wanted was some Gifts that Mr. Claus is bringing J.P. for his Christmas. It was a good deal 5 Dollars for 10 Hot Wheels. Any who, we are home now and going to enjoy the rest of the day indoors. Unless Mom and Dad really want me to take them to Old Time Pottery in Murfreesboro today for the sales. I don't mind taking them, but I would like to stay around the house today, and they mentioned saving their money for closer to Christmas. Well well well, I know you are all thinking "its been so long since a post". You may not even believe this is real, but believe me it is. In our last post we were all together at last. Jarvis Luke (who we now simply call Lukas), John Peter (obviously just Peter) and Abegail (Cathey Now since July 21, 2007 our wedding day). And sorry we did not post wedding photos or a wedding post its self. maybe I will do that next if anyone ask me to. Well, I guess its time to give you all the biggest update of all.

If you did not know Abegail is pregnant with our 3rd child. We went to the doctor on yesterday, and had an ultra sound done and we know the sex of the baby. So without further delay, we are having a GIRL!!!

Well since Christmas is right around the corner, we will share with you some wishes.

Peter loves Spider Man, would like to have a Game boy but we have not yet decided if he's ready for one of his own yet. (Abby has a Gameboy and we let Peter play it daily, though he does not yet take good care of it such as not touching the screen and putting it back where it belongs)
Other than those two, he likes toy cars, and other such things that 6yr olds like.

Luke likes things to put in his mouth. He is learning to pull himself up now. Seeing how Luke his going to have a baby sister soon, he may like a Diaper Genie cause his diapers are much fuller lately since he's eating from the table now.

Abegail likes her husband, and her children most of all. Ok but seriously as far as I know she is like most women from any culture or age group, she likes pretty things, soft things, tasty things, fragrant things, you know lady things. lets just say Christmas shopping for me will either be easy or tuff.

Myself, Carvis, I am the same as always, fun and games are my thing. Most of all my family is what motivates me and keeps me happy. well enjoy the photos and such and we'll try to update again soon.

Well, the day has arrived, the beginning of a wonderful family. Abegail, Peter, and Luke arrived yesterday as scheduled, with no mishaps, though very tired even exhausted. Peter was asleep in less than 5 minutes after leaving the airport and stayed asleep till about 10 p.m. Lukas was so tried he was fussy and could not sleep at first, but finally he did sleep around 6 p.m. Abegail was left to deal with the excitement of myself and the curiosity and excitement of mom and dad. Ultimately they've settled in for the most part and though a rough night with Lukas being the baby he is and peter waking at ten and ready to play with his new toys and me his new dad. He finally went to sleep again after midnight and that ended the evening really. There are countless other details I'd like to share but to have time to post some pictures I'll pass on the little moments for now and just say that we are finally together sure to be forever, happy safe and secure.

At Last, We Are Together, At Last

Well, the time has come for Abegail, John Peter, and Jarvis Luke to join me to begin living together as a real family. We have waited 10 months since beginning the immigration paperwork to bring them here. It will have been 1 year, 12 months, and 27 days since Abegail and I first met in person.
They are to arrive on July 3rd at approximately 2:30pm at Nashville's airport, so as you can imagine I am ultra excited. The thoughts that are going through my mind are here, there, and everywhere. It will be her first time here, my first time holding our 4 month old son "Lukas" (as I call him), and "Peter's"(that's John's nickname) beginning of a new life as well.

So for now its just my thoughts and feelings briefly put in electronic form for my family and friends to enjoy, and to possibly learn something new about me and/or my new family.
